Holiday Hermits 1 cup of shortening, soft 1 cup of granulated sugar 1 cup of brown sugar, firmly packed 2 Eggs 2 1/2 cups of sifted all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon of soda 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg 1/2 cup of buttermilk 1/2 cup of raisins 1/2 cup of diced mixed candied fruits 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts 1 1/2 cups of Quaker Oats, uncooked, quick or old fashioned

Instructions: Beat shortening and sugars together until creamy. Blend in eggs. Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in fruits, walnuts, and oats. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake in moderate oven (350ºF.) 12 to 15 minutes.
